Documentary x Design Fundraiser | Brooklyn, NY
Mujeres Atrevidas fundraiser on Saturday November 11, 2023 from 6-9 pm at Millennium Film Workshop: Live Music + Film Screening + Panel Discussion
On Saturday November 11, 2023 from 6-9 pm, please join me at Millennium Film Workshop to raise funds for a documentary film that I am producing as a design inquiry into gig work technology as part of my doctoral studies.
Directed by Ecuadorian-American filmmaker Cynthia Tobar, Mujeres Atrevidas seeks to chronicle the strength and persistence of Latine female immigrant food app-delivery workers, construction workers, and domestic cleaners in Brooklyn as they confront harsh working conditions and fight for labor rights with the Workers Justice Project. As a bilingual initiative in both Spanish and English, our project aims to integrate participatory documentary and participatory design methods to reimagine gig work technology for worker well-being, agency, and empowerment.
The event will feature live music by indie soul artist Rebecca McCartney, a film screening of short documentaries including a preview of Mujeres Atrevidas, and a panel discussion moderated by Gina Marchetti with director Cynthia Tobar, the Workers Justice Project, and film scholars Diana Flores RuÃz and Mónica-Ramón RÃos. You can click here to purchase tickets for which the proceeds will go to the event and venue.
If you want to specifically contribute to the film development, you can click here to donate through our crowd-funding page. All contributions are tax deductible and donors will have their names added to film credits.
We warmly thank our project partners the Dominican Artists Collective, KODA Lab for Creative Concepts, and Millennium Film Workshop, as well as our fiscal sponsor New York Foundation for the Arts for their support in making this work possible.
